HISTORY OF THE VISITS BETWEEN DENMARK AND FUILORO

2002: Fuiloro - Denmark

Father Manuel Ximenes, Principal of the agricultural school at Fuiloro visited Denmark Agricultural College with students Olavio Morais and Maria Auxiliadora da Silva. They stayed in the boarding facility with Demark students for six weeks.

 

2003:

March: Denmark - Fuiloro

Students at Denmark Ag College prepared agricultural supplies. Mr Tom Bradshaw (ag school trainer) and Libby Corson (English teacher) travelled to Fuiloro in March to forward the connection between the two schools.

September: Fuiloro - Denmark

Later that year the then Rector of Fuiloro Father Jojo San Juan visited Denmark. He wanted to have a look at Denmark himself, before committing to more student visits.

December: Denmark - Fuiloro

Libby Corson visited Fuiloro, taking funds for sponsorship of students and to arrange the next student visit.

 
 

2004:  Fuiloro - Denmark

Carlos da Costa, a teacher from Fuiloro came to Denmark Agricultural College for six weeks bringing two Year 11 students; Brigida Freitas and Quintao Amaral.

 

2005:

February: Denmark - Fuiloro

Murray Thornton travelled to East Timor and visited the school at Fuiloro. He visited the final year students, including Quintao and Brigida, who were conducting their 'practicum' - a hands on project in a village which becomes part of their assessment.

 

2005

July: Denmark - Fuiloro

 

Libby Corson and three students from Denmark Ag - Kyle Muir, Ishta White and Ayla Emery travelled to Fuiloro in the school holiday break. Sponsorship for the coming year is finalised.

2006: Libby Corson visited East Timor in January with Denise Sargent : a member of a Melbourne based fundraising group who raise money to provide children at Fuiloro with a meal a day at school. Negotiations were made to fund a well at a Los Palos Junior Secondary School.

Visits to sponsored uni students in Dili results in policy change - sponsored students will get a living allowance

 
   

2007:

July

Paddy Egerton Warburton and Libby attend the combined graduation of students from government and Catholic agricultural colleges in Fuiloro.

 

The well at Los Palos is completed.

Sponsorship details discussed and finalised for coming year.

 

 

2008 

October

Lois Drygan and daughter Lexie accompany Libby to Fuiloro.

Art materials, raincoats and maternity packs for new mothers are three new initiatives this year. Lois and Lexie give a number of art lessons.

 

Children from Yakamia primary school send art works for the children in Fuiloro. These are presented and return paintings made.

General sponsorship details for coming year discussed. Four new individual sponsorships set up.

University students are visited and progress reports made.
