The school at Fuiloro is a Don
Bosco institution. Don Bosco is the education arm of the
Salesians, a Catholic order begun in Italy and
concentrating its efforts on the education of young
people. In East Timor Don Bosco schools provide an
education in the Eastern part of the country. The school
at Fuiloro has existed since the 1940's, but was rebuilt
in the 1980's to provide agricultural education. It has
a large area of land and provides agricultural outreach
services as well as pastoral care for 15 villages in the
district. At Fuiloro
itself there is a Primary school and a Junior Secondary
school and a number of village schools are also
supported by the Salesians at Fuiloro.
The agricultural school is the
Senior Secondary School (Years 10 -12) and provides
boarding facilities for students from all over East
Timor.
Currently an Agribusiness
Diploma is offered as a Post Secondary one year
course. This course is funded by USAid and run by an
American contracting organisation.
There are two communities - the
priests' compound which is responsible for the boarding
facilities for boys. And a nuns' house which is
responsible for the boarding facilities for the girls,
the primary school and post secondary vocational courses
for girls. |
